Cheesecake? Yum? Yuck?

Cheesecake for some can just be a pleasent dessert.  But then again cheesecake for others is a blissful dessert that brings a smile and a long “mmmmmmm” after every bite.  Cheesecake for me would most definately be the 2nd option.

Cheesecake though I have no idea how to make it, can be made in different kinds of flavours.  You can make it with strawberry (most common), lemon, peach, mocha, chocolate, blueberry, orange, and pistachio but those are just some of the options.

After doing some research I figured out when and where cheesecake was originally made and how it came to be such a delicious delight for me today.  Cheesecake was believed to have been originated in ancient Greece.  Surprisingly enough they use to give this delight (which probably tasted and was made differently back then) to the athletes that competed in the first olympics in 766 B.C.  That I would have to say is actually so surprising to me and I’m very happy I discovered this because now I can argue to my mother that this is actually a very good dessert because only well examined foods can enter the diet of top-notch athletes.

Of course since I have no idea to make a cheesecake I decided to find the recipe <3.

SO COOL

So when searching for a interesting style of poetry I came across this created style of poetry called: The Compound Word Verse.  This poetry from was invented by Margaret R. Smith.  The Compound Word Verse consists of 3-line stanzas for a total of 15 lines.  The last line of each stanzas ends in a compound word and these compound words share a common stem word which is taken from the title.  To explain better i decided to show one:  I really don’t understand why i find this form of writing so marvelous.  It just seems to capture me and also give an enlightening feeling.

For the fun of it I decided to create my own just to see if I am amazed by the style of the poetry or just the poet.

The Unexpected Snow

Tree limbs become old fashioned lace;
camillias wear the cold embrace
of snowflakes.

The early snow brings such delight,
though day turns quickly into night
as snowdrifts

capture roads, and pile at the door;
the bitter winds moan tales, the lore
of snowstorms.

Light dances from the gleaming grate
until at last the winds abate,
still snowbound.

Pale dawn reveals a world of white
transformed by nature in the night,
a snowscape.

I really don't understand why i find this form of writing so marvelous.
It just seems to capture me and also give an enlightening feeling.
For the fun of it I decided to create my own just to see if I
am amazed by the style of the poetry or just the poet.

NURSERY RHYMES!!

Ok, I’m pretty sure that everyone has gotten their hands on a nursery rhyme or has a favorite one.  I would have to say my favorite nursery rhyme to ever be created is HUMPTY DUMPTY!  Not losing sight of my main assignment and getting a little back on track.  Nursery Rhymes are short songs or lines that are directed towards children that sometimes have morals to be learned.  Humpty Dumpty (the best nursery rhyme ever) is a example of one.

Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men
Couldn’t put Humpty together again.

To tell the truth I really don’t think this nursery rhyme has any morals to be learned.  It just sounds epic and you can say it however way you want to and it still sounds uplifting.  Nursery rhymes seem boring or childish but most of the nursery rhymes we have heard have really stuck with us as we went on in life.  Like one i still love no matter how immature I may look after reciting it at the top of my head is Hush Little Baby.

Hush Little Baby

Hush, little baby, don’t say a word,
Mama’s going to buy you
a mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird won’t sing,
Mama’s going to buy you
a diamond ring.
And if that diamond ring turns brass,
Mama’s going to buy you
a looking glass.
And if that looking glass gets broke,
Mama’s going to buy you a billy goat.
And if that billy goat won’t pull,
Mama’s going to buy you
a cart and bull.
And if that cart and bull turn over,
Mama’s going to buy you
a dog named Rover.
And if that dog named Rover
won’t bark,
Mama’s going to buy you
a horse and cart.
And if that horse and cart fall down,
You’ll still be the sweetest
little baby in town.

Nursery rhymes such as Hush Little Baby are songs that seem to stay with you forever.  Another good example would be Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.  Nursery rhymes are just amazing and really hold on to you for the rest of your life and i absolutely love them.

Out of most of the poets I flew by, i neglected to realize that their was an original more authentic poet.  He goes by the name of Williams Shakespeare.  Shakespeare has to be one of the most renowned poets of all time.  Not only has he made countless plays, but he has also revolutionized the world through his unique sense of writing.  Shakespeare in my opinion, is the only person who can make a tragedy sound beautiful instead of just heart wrenching.  Shakespeare through his writing can convert just about any theme into a deep and intense writing.  What i found absolutely astounding was one of his sonnets called: Sonnet #1 (real fancy huh?)

SONNET #1

by: William Shakespeare

ROM fairest creatures we desire increase,
That thereby beauty’s rose might never die,
But as the riper should by time decease,
His tender heir might bear his memory;
But thou, contracted to thine own bright eyes,
Feed’st thy light’s flame with self-substantial fuel,
Making a famine where abundance lies,
Thyself thy foe, to thy sweet self too cruel.
Thout that are now the world’s fresh ornament
And only herald to the gaudy spring,
Within thine own bud buriest thy content
And, tender churl, mak’st waste in niggarding.
Pity the world, or else this glutton be,
To eat the world’s due, by the grave and thee.

This sonnet is so heart warming and the interpretations are endless.  When I read this sonnet I felt as if he was talking about the worlds negatives and positives.  At one point it feels as if he finds the world beautiful and everlasting but then in the next life afterwards he basically says that all the positives are irrelevant because we only have so much time on this earth.

Shakespeare is an endless amount of philosophy and psychology and I find his work absolutely astounding.

Intense Woah >_<

I did an investigation on Dionne Brand a renowned poet, novelist, and essayist.  This women had a great impact on the views of social justice.  Through the intense and captivating language that Dionne uses in her poems, novels, and essays she has broken the walls of the norms of the writing world.

At first, after reading Dionne’s biography i didn’t know what kind of writing i wanted to read from her.  The powerful words that were described through her biography were so magnetic.  I felt as if I was being drawn to read at least one of everything.  After searching for one of her works I happened to stroll by her poem called: “From Thirsty”.  After reading this poem I tried to sit and think about what I just read.  Their were many lines that shot out at me, and many lines that I have absolutely no idea what it meant.  A line that really gripped me was

and this, we meet in careless intervals,

in coffee bars, gas stations, in prosthetic

conversations, lotteries, untranslatable

mouths, in versions of what we may be.

Although I have no idea what this could mean or should mean it really popped out at me.  I think, after reading this poem more than once you can only really understand the literature if you’ve experienced it or know Dionne as a person.  The writing seems to be very personal and very deep.  I think that Dionne was writing for her own self benefit and was trying to express herself as much as she could.

To honestly and truly tell you the truth about researching Maja Ratke, I casually attempted to make a sound piece just using the name… Moving on!!!! This piece was very interesting. during the first 16 seconds of the youtube clip i swear to the all powerful God that she said awwwww shiieeettt. Now don’t judge me if I’m wrong I’m just saying… again moving on…

This sound piece was very cool and I enjoyed it.  The sounds protrayed varied. Most of the other sound artists focused on one word or sound and stayed on that base.  Maja Ratke made high pitched noises and went deep in her high pitch voice. (if that makes sense… Don’t judge me)  I think that in dealing with such an artist her way of doing things sort of put you in a trance.  I realized while watching the video my mouth was casually open.  I didn’t intend to listen to open my mouth but it felt as if I should sing along with the video… Just saying…

While looking more indeph on this artist I also took into account that more then one noise was being casted out.  During the “aaahhhhhss” (Pardon my language) I heard an overlap of another noise.  I think that fusion of noises added a cool and hypnotizing affect to the piece.  I would have to say that I enjoyed Maja Ratke the best..

Don’t lie i know you enjoy her name to…

(say her name 5 times fast)  Each time you get to the “ke” in the name your throat automatically clears itself..

Choir remix

Alright so out of all the choirs I’ve heard or seen this one jaw got to be the best! The element choir being conducted by Christine Duncan is absolutely something to behold! They have a normal set up of a choir, the numbers of a choir, and instrumental back up. But the thing about this choir is that the ummm how would I say this… The pieces conducted by Christine aren’t songs! These pieces are noise after noise and with the numbers of this choir the sounds produced are breath taking! I felt as if they should be the sound effects for an actual movie! Although most movie sounds and songs are produced digitally withs choir like this it would be challenging to tell the difference!! I could fully see them all making some intense Kung Fu sounds while I fight a mob of ninja warriors… Just saying…

On a serious note a element choir such as this really caught my attention and I can see what could’ve drawn other people to join such an interesting group!

Oh back on another note… They’d totally be allowed to appear in my High Definition Theatre of Theatrical Events!!

Aha ummm?

So I ummm just listened to this sound poet by the name of Paul Dutton. All of his pieces sounded quite interesting. They didn’t really appeal to me as much as I thought it could have. One that I really found interesting was his piece called “umm.” This piece was really awesome because I myself say ummm a lot! He piece really felt as if he was trying to say something or trying to make a point that just couldn’t come to him!!

I don’t really enjoy this kind of work but the sounds are really relatable! I guess I just enjoy my own noises…

So I think I had to listen to 4’33 about 3 times to understand what that i was actually understanding nothing.  I tried long and hard trying to get to understand what John Cage was trying to display in this umm… Orchestra?  I don’t even know if that would be an appropriate name.  I understand that everyone has a different ear for music and that someones garbage might be someone elses treasure but honestly…  That blank piece was very odd to me.  I wouldn’t say I was disapointed and I wouldn’t say it was bad or good, but for me personally I really enjoy music as a kind of entertainment/hobby.

When I watched this for the first time i think i fell asleep.  Silence and me aren’t good friends.  I was bored, uneasy, and very reckless.  I needed something big to happen! I wanted someone to shout or scream do something, all the silence and boredom just got to my head and I really couldn’t imagine that someone had the “guts” to do such a thing.  John Cage had a silent orchestra.  When i think back to it now it really blows my mind.   He finds such peace and bliss in just silence.  I had a friend watch it while i was writing this and she was completely blown away and called John Cage’s piece a masterpiece.  She explains that in the silence she had time to think, relax, and just enjoy nothing.  When I think about this in my own way,  I didn’t enjoy this piece because the whole time I was listening to the piece i was just waiting for it to end. So just a moment i’m going to go finish the end of the piece

6-minutes later.

So the 4th time I listened to this song I think i got to about 2 minutes before i started dying of boredom again.  In conclusion i think that only through certain traits of the human mind are you able to understand and fully enjoy this piece.  I Marcus Ferguson did not enjoy this piece…

So this is how it’s going to work… I stand you clap, I talk you listen, I write you read, I make a joke you laugh (probably won’t have to force it),  and when everything is said and done just know I just blew out your boring uncreative way of thinking..
